You might automatically assume that having green juice is a great way to switch to a healthier beverage, but there are actually quite a few similarities between green juice and soda like Coca-Cola. Have you ever heard of the term, “health halo”? According to The Guardian, it is misleading shoppers! Basically, this is a phrase that nutrition experts will use to describe foods and drinks, such as green juices, when it is thought to be a healthy option for the general public, even though that food or drink might very well be counterproductive when it comes to managing health and weight.

The problem with health halos is that they often trick people into thinking that a high-calorie, or unhealthy, food or drink is actually a good choice for managing weight. People are persuaded into buying, and sometimes even paying more for, something that isn’t as good for them as they think it is. As a result, people who consume a lot of foods and drinks that have health halos often end up taking in too many calories. Sometimes, it’s because they eat more of these foods per serving because they think that they can.

What could be wrong with a green juice that is made with veggies?

Sure, green juice is popular, and it might appear healthy at first, but here’s the thing: these juices can contain high amounts of sugar that can lead to weight gain. And, this is the case even if you make a green juice at home using a juicer that you purchased.

In addition to that, this type of juice also has a lot of calories, even if you don’t end up adding any sugar to it. So, there really is a danger of going green when it comes to drinks!

Not a Good Idea If You’re Watching Your Weight

If you are working hard to slim down by taking a product like keto diet pills, exercising regularly, and eating right, you might be undoing a lot of that good by drinking green juice. Here’s how:

  • Just one 8-ounce serving of Coca-Cola, or the same serving size of orange juice with no sugar added, will have about 100 calories in it. It might not seem like much, but if you have a glass of either one of these beverages every day, you raise the risk of gaining 10 pounds in a year. Yikes!
  • What about green juice? Well, even one that is made at home might have anywhere from 80 to 150 calories in an 8-ounce serving. Not much different from the orange juice and soda we discussed above!

As you can see, even though you might think that juice is a good choice when you are trying to lose weight or keep it off, the sugar content, and the calories, are enough to make this strategy pretty counterproductive.

Always keep in mind that, when it comes to shedding pounds, the number of calories you consume plays a major role. So, by now, the danger of going green, even with drinks, is clear.
