Now, if you were to greatly reduce your intake of those foods, or cut them out of your diet completely, you’ll still keep having the cravings to enjoy them.

It’s All About a Varied Diet 

If you want to make food cravings disappear, you’re in for a challenge. But, with the right steps, which include consuming a more varied diet, you can at least reduce the severity of your cravings over time. That’s good news!

  1. Start by figuring out what triggers your food cravings. It’s usually an external cue, such as a certain time of the day or a certain smell. You might have a habit of enjoying a sweet treat in the afternoon as a pick-me-up, so you find it hard to resist. Your emotions are gratified by these habits, and if you don’t act on a cue, you don’t feel good. Just keep in mind that knowing these triggers is the first step in tackling them.
  2. Next, understand that cutting out entire food groups, or even specific foods, will likely backfire. Rather than taking such drastic measures, aim to reduce your intake of those foods by 25-50%. Sure, you’re having a smaller portion, but if you take the time to eat it mindfully, savoring every bite, you’ll still be satisfied. It’s all about balance!
  3. If you want to make food cravings disappear, you shouldn’t go cold turkey. No eating plan, regardless of how many positive reviews it has received, will be able to totally get rid of your emotional urges to eat certain foods. But, if you take gradual steps, you can reduce their severity, establish new patterns and habits, and start to select healthier options naturally.
  4. Finally, avoid having unhealthy options at specific times. For example, it isn’t a good idea to tell yourself that you’ll always have pizza for lunch on Fridays. Doing so will only cause you to develop another unhealthy habit, and another unhealthy craving.
