I’ve decided i need to place better focus on my post-workout muscle recovery. I have a very basic muscle roller tool but should I use a foam roller?  Should I get a more intense muscle roller that isn’t as smooth as the one I’m using?  Anyone have tools that work?

I’ve heard a lot of good things about foam rollers.  If you have that an d a regular roller tool you’ll probably have everythign you need.  Other than that, heat or ice is probably your best tool.  Nothing is going to do everything.  You can only boost circulation and avoid tightening up while also speeding up recovery.  It’s all you need.

Foam rollers hurt so much but they make a huge difference.  The trick is to know how to use them right and to make sure you’re using the right size on the correct part of your body.  They’re not all the same. I even saw a water bottle that can be used as a foam roller (it had an outer foam coating with the knobs on it) but that would be good pretty much for emergencies or at the gym.  A good one is usually bigger than that.  If you’re not sure, talk to someone in person who can show you how.  Otherwise, it’s pain with no benefits!

Really? On a water bottle? That’s a pretty good idea.  Means you don’t have to pack as much at least.  You can use it after the workout initially and then use your good foam roller later on when you get home.  I like that idea. Where did you see it?

Ya the water bottle one was pretty small but it’d be ok if you really needed to have one with you.  It’s pretty expensive, but again, if you need it, it would be worth it.  Strangely, I saw it at a trade show in a display, but I know it’s already being sold.  Maybe try amazon or one of those types of place?

If you want something small and convenient, they have the muscle massagers in the form of balls with little knobs on the outside.  That could work if you need something while you’re on the go.  They’re probably easier to pack along with you than a foam roller, even a water bottle one.
