I’m looking for a good winter coat this year before the weather gets bad. Are the ones with an outer shell you can wear in the fall but that have a zip-in liner any good? Will I basically get 2 coats in one that way, or do I just get something I won’t like as much or that won’t keep me warm?

I like a shell jacket with an inner liner zipped in. Just get a good one.  Don’t get it to try to save money on two coats. Expect to pay what you’d pay for two coats and get an excellent one with lots of flexibility.

If you get a good one, they’re excellent. My current one was expensive, but it’s like 3 coats. A winter coat with a shell and liner, a waterproof windbreaker shell, and a fleece liner for cool but dry days. The reason I’d say to make sure you get a good one is that by choosing this style, you’ll be wearing the parts of your coat year-round, which means it will experience more wear-and-tear.

Thanks! That’s exactly what I wanted to know! I really appreciate it. Now I only hope that I can get one on sale. I’ll get a good one…but still, doesn’t hurt to save, right? Haha. I’ll probably wait until black friday. That’ll give me enough time to look things up and check reviews to be sure I’m getting a good one.
