An earlier post about building strength on hills inspired me to ask this question. What workouts can you do off the bike that will help to improve cycling ease and performance?

Anything that will promote power in your legs is good…you’re going to be doing a lot of squats!

Burpees. Millions of burpees.  Nobody likes them but they’ll boost both strength and endurance when you keep them up.

I bet planks would help. THey’re good for strengthening essentially everything, aren’t they?

probably using a stationary bike! It would help you work the same muscles while you adjust the tension to suit what you want to achieve. It’ll let you practice on tough hills that are simulated, even while you’re not out there trying to battle your way up a road mountain!

Did anyone say swimming? It’s cardio with resistance, like a bike is too. Only easier on your joints.
