Just got new orthotics from a specialist and it’s taking me a long time to be able to get used to them.  I have to slowly start using them a half hour per day and then bulid from there.  It’s driving me crazy because I can’t walk with them and can’t walk without them.  How do I get cardio in the meantime? I can do strength training without them, but what about cardio?

It’s really important to use orthotics gradually or you’ll hurt yourself before they help you, so its’ good your’e taking your time.  Try something like swimming where you get cardio without using yoru feet.  Or you could get on a stationary bike.  That shouldn’t need orthotics.  Just use good comfortable shoes for that. Try those until the time that you can use your orthotics full time. Good luck ! 🙂

I’d say just break them in during the regular day and do the rest of your workouts in regular shoes until your feet are used to them.  Like kittykatt said you can do stuff that keeps you off your feet, too.  It could be like cycling or swimming or even the eliptical. Anything that doesn’t force you to take actual strides.
