I keep hearing that both too much and too little sleep make it hard to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight. I definitely believe it, but is there a known reason that this happens?
-
It’s not just energy, but that is a big part of it. It changes the way your brain works and the way your hormones balance. They all pretty much work against you when you’re not well rested!
-
I agree. Energy is part, hormones are part, neurotransmitters probably too. With less sleep, you won’t want to exercise and if you do, you won’t put as much into it. If you don’t get good sleep, you don’t want salad, you want cheese.

Thanks. Makes more sense to me now and now I know what I should be researching into a little bit more to understand it. I hadn’t even thought of hormones.
-
Have you been sleeping well? Is it helping, if so?
-
It impacts energy levels, food cravings, clarity of thinking, stress hormones, and so much more. Good sleep decides how easy/hard and successful your efforts to lose weight will be.

Good point about the stress hormones and thinking clearly, @envirotodd. I don’t even want to think about being careful if I’m exhausted, let alone whether I’m actually capable of doing it!

Thank you! I’m needing to sit back to take all this in. Sleep should be listed with diet and exercise more! It has a big impact!
