If I want a bike for everyday use but the area where I live is very hilly, do I get a mountain bike or city bike? Can a city bike give me the options I need and performance i need even on lengthy steep hills, as long as they’re paved?

Get whichever one you find most comfortable to ride, but a city bike should be fine on pavement. Get one with enough gears.

A city bike should be fine. The mountain bike’s features aren’t just for hills but for the terrain. City bikes should have enough gears to get you up the hills and down them again.
