  1. First, divide your weight (in kilograms) by your height (in meters)
  2. Then, divide your answer by your height again

Just keep in mind that muscle does weigh more than fat. So, you might have a higher BMI, even though you are actually quite lean and healthy, if you have a lot of muscle throughout your body.

  • What’s considered a normal weight? A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9
  • What’s considered overweight? A BMI between 25 and 29.9
  • What’s considered obese? A BMI that’s 30 or higher
  • What’s considered underweight? A BMI that’s less than 18.5

Measure Your Waist-to-Hip Ratio 

Another way to figure out if you’re at a healthy body weight for women is by measuring your waist-to-hip ratio, as fat that is found around your middle can be more harmful than other types of fat throughout your body.

How do you come up with this measurement? All you have to do is divide your waist measurement by your hip measurement. Simple!

Ideally, women should aim to have a waist circumference that’s 31.5” or less to help reduce the risk of health problems. Also, if your waist-to-hip ratio is 0.85 or higher, the risk of health problems is substantially higher.

Your Height and Age Will Affect Your Weight 

As you get older, your muscle mass will decrease, while fat tends to increase, so it’s important to keep that in mind. You might need to work harder to keep the fat away and to keep your muscles strong.

Another thing to consider is your height. If you’re a woman who is only 5’ tall, a healthy weight range is 97–123 pounds, but if you are 5’7”, an ideal weight range would be 121–153 pounds.
